HOW TO CREATE A 2-In-1 LOOK

Updated: Feb 21

I recently finished a project for a 15yr old teenager called Coco who was looking for a room for now and for the future. So I decided to design for her a 2-in-1 look. One with a pink accent for now and one for the future in a Coco Chanel monochromatic, chic, neutral style that any young women would want to grow into. By keeping the walls, curtains, upholstery, ceiling, skirting, woodwork, carpentry and flooring neutral, it gave me a canvas to paint two different designs on to.

Is there anything more iconic and timeless than the Coco Chanel brand. When I designed this room for Coco I had her future in mind. Between the ages of 15-21yrs there's a lot of growing up between these years and before leaving home.

A soothing calming sophisticated palette is not only simplistic, but also lets the details shine through. In today’s busy world it’s nice to unwind in a bedroom that feels fresh, serene and luxurious.

I kept the design simple, with the option to mix and match between two styles. One with pink soft furnishings and accessories for now and for a teenager. And one with monochromatic soft furnishings and accessories for a more grown up, sophisticated glamorous look for the future and the years to come.

So I procured two sets of everything, which is a really inexpensive way to change a look to last and to grow into:

Pink - For A Younger Look:

  • Dusty pink hotel collection bed throws from John Lewis

  • Dusty pink hotel collection scatter cushions from John Lewis

  • Dusty pink scatter cushions in various sizes from The Range

  • Dusty pink velvet scalloped chair (clients own)

  • Linens with Oyster Pink edging from The White Company

  • Dusty pink lamp base and shade from John Lewis

  • Dusty pink shag pile giant rug from The Rug Seller

  • Dusty pink artificial orchids (designers own)

  • Dusty pink glass tea light holders (H&M)

Cream & Black (Monochromatic) - For An Older Sophisticated Look:

  • Charcoal grey hotel collection bed throws from John Lewis

  • Charcoal grey hotel collection scatter cushions from John Lewis

  • Bespoke upholstery and scatter cushions in Galaxy Tusk cream with a gold thread and black piping fabric by Prestige Fabrics

  • Cream and black scatter cushions in various styles from John Lewis

  • Cream and gold scatter cushions in various sizes from The Range

  • Cream and black leather quilted chair (clients own)

  • White with wooden legs chair from Vitra (designers own)

  • White linens with black borders from H&M

  • Chrome and cream shade lamp base from Habitat (designers own)

  • Cream giant knotted rug from H&M

  • Black and cream large linen and leather storage trunks from Maison du Monde

  • White artificial orchids from Amazon (designers own)

  • White and gold luxury candles from Anderson Davie Interior Design

With there being so many trends in interior design, I am certain that Coco will enjoy this room and never tire of it for many many years to come..... Like a beautifully tailored blazer, it'll never go out of fashion, It'll stand the test of time and be uncompromising.

Coco Chanel herself said "A girl should be two things: Who and what she wants"....
